Expressway Stakes 2017 race preview

27 January 2017 11:16 AM

Rosehill was rated a Good 4 on Friday morning and with no rain forecasted, it should remain dry on raceday. Race six on the card is the Group 2 Expressway Stakes run over 1200m.

There's a field of only six runners contesting the $202,000 prize money with half of the field resuming.

Form Analysis

Rosehill Betting Odds

1. Music Magnate won first-up last time at this distance. Expect him to take a trail behind the speed with speedsters on either side of him. Resumes after a solid campaign with the exception of his last run where he didn't get any favours back in the field. Has won both trials leading into this. Top chance.

2. Kuro is in top form with his only failure coming on a wet track two runs back. New test here against Group 1 performers and at weight-for-age. Chance.

3. Ball Of Muscle mixes his form a bit but is capable at his best. Best effort last campaign was a head second to Takedown in the G2 Shorts at Randwick in the Spring. Was third 1.5 lengths behind Kuro at his recent outing.

5. Handfast. First-up last preparation rates okay for this race when 0.6 lengths third to Sir Bacchus when forced to shuffle back from barrier 8. Handy first-up form. Has claims.

6. Attention  is given some chance against tougher opposition. Looked solid at his only trial leading into this race. Finished a nose away from gun colt Winning Rupert at the 1200m last prep.

4. Big Money is racing okay this preparation in easier races. Might sneak a place.

Betting Selections

1st Music Magnate. Very hard to go past him on the back of his form last campaign and his trial form leading into this race.

2nd Kuro is next best. Makes a case to win but looks a bit thin on class compared to the favourite.

3rd HandFast
