Victoria Derby 2015 racing analysis and tips

Australia's premier distance race for three-year-olds, the Victoria Derby, is race 7 on the nine race program on Saturday. It's one of four Group 1 races on the day. There's three Group 3 and two Group 2 races which is why punters call it the best punting day of the year.

Tarzino looks primed for the 2500m. His run two starts back 3.8 lengths behind Press Statement where he was blocked for a run near the 100m looks good. He then finished 1.8 lengths behind Jameka in the Vase over 2040m at the Valley.

West Australian Kia Ora Koutou makes the trip across the country with an impressive four wins from four starts. His last win was against open company over 2200m. Smart horse by all reports.

Lizard Island has some impressive runs under his belt coming into this race. Nice effort over the mile to finish within 2 lengths of Press Statement and then followed with a strong effort behind Sacred Eye over 2000m at Caulfield a few weeks ago. Looks set to give this a blast.

Get The Picture is another runner with serious claims in the race. Last two starts have been strong in races where the pattern wasn't suited. Should get a more solid tempo here and the Flemington straight will assist his big run home.

Extra Choice showed what a gear change can do last start when he won the Geelong Classic in style. That race produced last year's Victoria Derby winner. Big chance it could happen again this year.

Shards ran second to Jameka last start and just beat Tarzino. Has mixed form coming into this. Can win if his mind is on the job.

Of the others best chances given to Pay Up Bro, Etymology and Jadeer.

1st Get The Picture on top. Looks like he will eat-up the 2500m here and his form coming into this rates highly.
