NewsKingsford Smith Cup 2017 race preview

Group one action comes to Eagle Farm on Saturday with the running of the Kingsford-Smith Cup, run over 1300m under weight-for-age conditions. Punters will be treated to a great race with a strong field of quality sprinters assembled to contest the $707k in prize money.
The field of thirteen includes no less than four Group 1 winners and a handful of other contenders who have competed at this level.
The 1300m starts in the back straight, 300m before they turn. Barrier statistics over the past eight years don't show any significant bias towards inside barriers.
#1 Black Heart Bart - odds fluctuations 10am 26/5 - 3.4, 3.3, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.3, 3.4
Comes off a reasonable effort in the Goodwood where he was expected to do better. Should be better for the run and looking for an improved effort this week under weight-for-age conditions and the extra distance will suit. Presents as the class runner of the field.
#11 Derryn - odds fluctuations 10am 26/5 - 6, 6.5, 6, 5.5, 6
Gets back in his races and powers home. Produced that pattern at his last two outings where he beat Global
Glamour and then came close to Redzel in the 10,000. Earns serious consideration on his latest effort. Expecting pace in the race which will suit. Contender.
#6 Clearly Innocent- odds fluctuations 10am 26/5 - 7, 6.5
Looked a class above at his recent outing when finishing over two lengths ahead of his nearest rival in listed company. Up to Group 1 level here at WFA, but looks a genuine contender.
#2 Counterattack - odds fluctuations 10am 26/5 - 7, 6.5, 7
Has been strong at his two recent outings on wet tracks against quality opposition. Extra distance suits. Worthy contender at this level.
#8 Jungle Edge - odds fluctuations 10am 26/5 - 11, 9.5, 10, 9.5, 10, 9.5
Gets conditions to suit. Likely leader which gives Forrester first option to take the best part of the track in the home straight. Loves the wet and his BRC Sprint win says he's going well. Top chance.
#4 Music Magnate odds fluctuations 10am 26/5 - 13, 12, 13
Looked good two runs back when he won the G2 Victory in style. Had excuses in the 10,000 when running into trouble mid-race. Expect him to go forward from his wide draw here. Contender
#14 Impending - odds fluctuations 10am 26/5 - 16, 15
Ran into trouble at his recent outing when finishing 2.8 lengths behind Derryn in the G2 Arrowfield. Before that got too far back in a leader dominated race finishing a distant third on a bog track. Can improve on those runs here.
Off the others.....
Hopfgarten looks value at current quotes of $26 enhanced odds . Returned well in the Victory running 1.3 lengths behind Music Magnate. Extra distance suits and likes it wet. Can't dismiss.
