Ipswich Cup 2015 race review

The feature race on this weekend is the Listed Ipswich Cup run over 2150m. The track is an interesting one. It has a 300m straight which is bit shorter than the average metropolitan track. A small straight after they turn past the finishing post and an almost circular track for the rest of the trip. Historically it has favoured front runners, but that's a trend to consider not to stick by. The track was rated a Good (4) this morning and rain is expected to hold off until Sunday.

There's an interesting 13 horse field contesting the $175,000 prize money on offer. Favourite Danchai has only the two wins under his belt but boasts two good runs this preparation albeit on wet tracks. He has won up to 2100m and his forward running style should be well suited in this race.

Baligari is next best in the market. Good effort last start for his first run beyond 1600m when he finished half a length second in the Group 3 Premier's Cup. That was on a slow track but he runs well on the dry too. Top chance here.

Darci Be Good is putting in a good solid preparation stepping back to 1630m last start to finish a head behind in third place in a Listed race. He has won up to 2050m and should be making his presence felt in this.

Volhere backs-up after last Saturday's 1.3 length fifth in the Brisbane Cup over 2200m. That's great credentials for this race and he should go close.

Hi Son seemed to be crying out for this distance earlier in this preparation but hasn't gone on with the job when the opportunities have presented themselves. Not without a hope of winning but unsure if he is going well enough past 2000m to be a real threat.

Off the others I really like Noisy Ocean. His last three runs this preparation have been solid against comparable horses. The extra distance here will suit and he should get forward for a good crack at them in the straight.

I have Baligari on top to win. Noisy Ocean currently at double figure odds in for second and Darci Be Good for third.
