Tattersall's Tiara 2016 race preview

24 June 2016 10:41 AM

A softer track this week at Eagle Farm for the running of the Group 1 Tattersal's Tiara. The track was rated a Soft 6 at 8am Friday morning with the rail out 6 metres for the entire circuit. The Tatts Tiara is for fillies and mares and runs over the 1400m course. Starting a few hundred metres into the back straight, runners have 300m to run before entering a circular turn into the 434 metre straight.

Barrier statistics using strike rate percentages show a definite trend favouring the first four barriers, with barrier one on top representing 12.4% of wins from races run over the1400m at Eagle Farm in the past nine years.

Azkadellia is afforded excuses after underperforming in the Stradbroke here a few weeks ago. Was up against it on a good track that favoured front runners that day, getting the worst ground in the run for home along the outside. Proven at this level against mares and expect the soft track to play differently this time around. One of the main chances.

Danish Twist has been impressive this campaign mixing her distances and winning each of her last four starts against good opposition. Especially like the way she beat the boys last start dropping back to 1100m. Can settle anywhere in the field so expect her to make the most of barrier one. Top chance.

Precious Gem wasn't bad in the Stradbroke after finding herself in the wrong place in the running that day. Runs before were solid. Can't dismiss.

Cradle Me was solid in her G2 Dane Ripper win at Doomben a few weeks ago over 1400m. Sharp also the run before when running second behind smart filly Ghisoni. Like her chances if she overcomes the wide draw. Chance.

Artistry. Last two runs have been solid. Both over 1400m. Came hard at the end to finish 1 length behind Cradle Me last start. Run before that was wide without cover jumping from a wide gate and finished 1.8 lengths behind Danish Twist. With early luck can be very competitive in this.

Scarlet Billows. Not many excuses for her underperformance last week in Listed company. Doesn't get easier here but is in a top stable so hard to completely knock.

Blueberry Hill won well after finding the quicker part of the course last week. Harder here. Place.

Of the others, have to give Jessy Belle some chance after a promising run last start in the Dane Ripper finishing 1.2 lengths behind Danish Twist. Echo Gal is some chance off the back of her last start third to Blueberry Hill at Ipswich. Needs to keep improving. Onemorezeta is some chance but gets an extra challenge with the wide draw.

1st Azkadellia goes on top. Gets the turnaround in conditions that should suit her here and has the class edge to make it her race.
