Show County Quality 2016 Race Preview

18 August 2016 10:41 AM

Race six at Randwick on Saturday is one of three Group 3 races on the program. The Show County Quality is a 1200m race with nine horses contesting $125,000 in prize money. There is no less than six runners resuming in the race. The 1200m course at Randwick gives runners 600m of straight running before they meet the first and only turn on the track, so barriers aren't expected to play much of a part in the race.

Le Romain resumes after a successful preparation as a three-year-old where he won the G1 Randwick Guineas and was runner-up in the G2 Hobartville and Eskimo Prince. Went well in his trials leading up to this race. Won previous first-up and has a win and third from two first-up starts. Hasn't missed a place in all four starts at this distance and has two wins and a second from three Randwick starts. Go well.

Betting Odds Randwick Races

Vashka. Hasn't raced since his spring 2015 campaign when he was ultra competitive up to Group 1 level including a win over Under The Louvre. Had excuses in his only average finish in the Theo Marks finishing 3.6 lengths behind Winx. He has missed a place only once in his five fresh starts and just missed at this distance first-up last preparation. Goes close.

Tycoon Tara comes off a solid fresh win in heavy going. Has some tougher opposition her but can't dismiss.

Mount Nebo was solid 1 length behind Tycoon Tara in the Missile. Has a fitness edge with five races under his belt this campaign. Chance.

Boss Lane had some solids runs at Randwick last preparation. Wasn't far away resuming last time, flying home to finish 0.9 lengths behind Cradle Me over 1200m at this track. He had two recent trials winning his most recent over 850m. Should give a good site.

Generalife was a bit unlucky in two of his three races in his last preparation. Usually races strong fresh and showed plenty of late dash in his recent trial. Can be competitive here.

Famous Seamus comes off an ordinary campaign where he finished at the back of the field in all four runs. He trialled well but I prefer to see him go round first.

Decision Time mixes his form a bit. Best run in recent times was a second in the Winter Dash beaten 0.8 lengths by Mount Nebo. Better efforts have come when ridden quieter. Not hopeless.

Messene. Previous run of note around the 1200m mark was back in August 2015 when he finished 1.6 lengths fifth fresh in the G2 Missile stakes beaten by Burbero. Won his trial under a hold. A win is not out of the question.

1st Vashka. If he races anywhere near his best he will be hard to beat. Distance and first-up records are hard to go past.

2nd Boss Lane

3rd Tycoon Tara
