Rosehill Guineas Race Review

The Rosehill Guineas is the second of five Group One races on Golden Slipper Day. It's a 2000m race restricted to three-year-olds under set weight conditions. Once again the ATC has only managed to get 7 starters for the $500,000 race with the Cummings trained Hallowed Crown looking to make it three wins from his third run this preparation. Bookmakers opened him at $2.60 earlier in the week before he eased out to his current quote of $2.80.

The big question mark about the favourite is the distance, having never run past 1600m. His first attempt at the mile last start showed that he was well up to it, winning confidently across the line in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas.

Sweynesse was beaten last start and the one before that by the favourite. This time around he is racing further which should be more suitable. Won the Group 3 Gloaming over 1800m but seemed to peak about 200m from home in the Spring Champion last year over 2000m. He did follow run that with a a solid performance in the Cox Plate but there is still a small question mark over the 2000m for him I feel.

Good reports about Mongolian Khan who has an incredible racing history of 6 wins from 7 starts including the 2400m Group 1 New Zealand Derby where he prevailed over rival in this race Volkstock'N'Barrel. Both horses come with big wraps and are sure to be in the mix towards the finish.

This is probably a bit too short for Preferment and not sure if Hampton Court has come back the same horse as he was in the Spring. Maybe the extra distance might be more to his liking here.

I have Mongolian Khan on top to win on his proven ability run over 2000m and beyond. Putting his rival in recent runs, Volkstock'N'Barrel in for second and Sweynesse to run third.
