All Aged Stakes 2017 race preview

14 April 2017 11:16 AM

Randwick hosts the last day of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, All Aged Stakes Day on Saturday. The track was a heavy 9 on Thursday morning and the rail will be out 7 metres from the 1600m mark through to the winning post.

The Group 1 All Aged Stakes brings together a hot field of ten contenders over the 1400m course under weight-for-age conditions. It's a wide open affair with many genuine chances in the race.

Key Runners

9. English looked to have the TJ Smith in the bag up to the shadows of the post. Beat Black Heart Bart to win this race last year on a soft 5 and has had a better lead-up this time. Great show.

1. Le Romain was having the preparation of his life up to his Doncaster run. Never got a clear passage in that run so happy to forgive. Bowman stays on and has a bit of work to do with reasonable speed inside him. Will relish the conditions and goes in as one of the top chances.

4. Voodoo Lad was a very fast finishing fifth in the TJ Smith. Up against similar opposition and conditions here and the extra distance suits. Contender.

5. McCreery has been inconsistent this preparation. Was good fresh to win on a heavy 9 over 1300m then disappointed in the George Ryder and inconclusive at his latest when camped at the back of the field without a lot of speed on up front. Can surprise. Keep safe.

8. Tivaci comes into this with genuine excuses at his last two outings. Yet to prove himself at WFA but definitely edging closer. In the mix.

2. Redkirk Warrior raced strongly fresh to win by two lengths in the Newmarket. Then a heavy track was blamed in the Doncaster. Likely to have similar conditions again. Risk?

The Verdict

1st English looks a stand-out to go back-to-back.

2nd Voodoo Lad

3rd McCreery
