Ipswich Cup 2017 race preview

15 June 2017 13:56 PM

It's that time of the year again when punter's eyes turn to Ipswich as the host of Saturday's feature race meeting.

If you are not too familiar with the track should should note the short 300m home straight which tends favour front runners.

The track was rated a heavy 8 on Thursday morning. Weather forecasts favour dry conditions on Friday with a slight chance of rain on Saturday.

Not a lot of early betting activity in this race. A splash of cash for Kaiser Franz in from $21 to $19 and Feltre has landed some early bets winding his $26 openers into $19.

#3 Sort After - odds fluctuations 9pm 15/6 - 3.5, 3.6

Ticks a lot of boxes here. Finished a close second in both attempts at 2000m including her recent outing at Morphettville. Form lines are good from those races. Front runner who will be suited by the short home straight. Hard to beat.

betting odds Ipswich

#1 Benzini odds fluctuations 9pm 15/6 - 4.6 unchanged

Came home okay last week in the Brisbane Cup but was never going to pick-up the winner. Opposition is not as tough here but gets a few extra kilos for good measure. Should get closer this time.

#2 Jumbo Prince odds fluctuations 9pm 15/6 - 5.5 unchanged

Didn't make an impression at his recent outing when fading to finish near the tail. Possible excuses with the track condition. Will need a positive ride to position him to be ready to pounce in the home straight.

#6 Self Sense odds fluctuations 9pm 15/6 - 10 unchanged

Gets conditions more to his liking here with a wet track. Never got into the race at his last start. Put in strong performances around this distance in Melbourne in races that rate strongly against this opposition. Came from the rear in each of those races. Chance.

#13 Tessastock odds fluctuations 9pm 15/6 - 12 unchanged

Was tested at this level two starts back when she finished back in the field. Won in easier grade at her last outing.

Off the others.....

Kaiser Franz grew another leg in the wet two starts back when he had no cover and managed to win the G3 Premiers Cup over 2200m at Eagle Farm. Must watch on a wet Ipswich track.

1st Sort After - presents as a stand-out chance in this. Don't think the $3.60 will be around for long.
